MUNI cuts service to culture bus

SAN FRANCISCO

A one-year pilot program for the line began in September with service every 20 minutes between 8:40 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. However, low ridership on the line has prompted a reduction of service.

Starting today, the line will provide hourly service.

The cutback is also due to a difficult budge climate, which demands for Muni to conserve its resources, Muni officials said.

The culture bus runs from Howard and New Montgomery streets to Golden Gate Park, making stops at cultural institutions such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Asian Art Museum, de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences.

Other sites along or near the route include City Hall, Union Square, Yerba Buena Gardens, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.

All-day tickets for the bus cost $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth 5 to 17, and are free for children 4 and under. Tickets cost $3 for customers with Muni Fast Pass cards.

Tickets include a $3 discount to the Academy of Sciences and a $2 discount at the de Young museum.
