Seizure patients unknowingly consent to study

SAN FRANCISCO

Stanford University and the University of California, San Francisco are among 17 research centers that are trying to figure out the best way to give anti-seizure medications in emergency situations.

Unlike patients in other studies, people who suffer a seizure are often unconscious and unable to give consent.

Patients who do not want to be in the study need to wear a specific red bracelet. For more information or to obtain a bracelet, contact Stephanie Casal at Stanford (650) 721-2645 or Michele Meeker at UCSF (415) 206-3220.
