Man assaults, threatens to kill wife

A 31-year-old Castroville man was arrested after allegedly assaulting his wife and threatening to kill her in front of the couple's two children Sunday night, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Jose Cervantes was arrested after the assault, which was reported at about 9:10 p.m., according to the sheriff's office.

Cervantes allegedly grabbed his wife around the back of the neck and threw her into closet doors with both hands while threatening to kill her, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim complained of severe pain to the neck after the incident, according to the sheriff's office.

Cervantes faces charges of domestic assault and making criminal threats that could result in death or great bodily injury, according to the sheriff's office.
