W. Contra Costa considers closing 5 schools

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA

The schools in question are El Sobrante Elementary, Castro Elemetary, Lake Elementary, Shannon Elementary and Adams Middle School.

It was also recommended that the district close the Seaview Staff Development Center and the Furniture Warehouse.

Additionally, the district is considering closing Olinda Elementary, Kennedy High School, Gompers Continuation High School, North Campus Continuation High School, Serra Adult Education School and Alvarado Adult Education School for the 2010-2011 school year.

The disctrict is facing a $3 million budget gap and is looking for ways to cut costs.

There is a meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Dejean Middle School for public comment.

The school board will make its final decision next month.
