Man killed in two-alarm fire

SAN JOSE, CA

The blaze was reported at about 2:50 a.m. at 2970 Verna Drive, according to Stallard, who said the fire was declared under control shortly before 5 a.m.

At around 4 a.m., firefighters found the victim on the first floor of the home, Stallard said.

The fire was contained to the attic area of the home's second floor by about 3:45 a.m., according to Stallard, and was fully controlled just over an hour later.

The cause of the blaze, which caused at least $300,000 in damage to the home, remains under investigation, Stallard said.
