Desalination project faces opposition

Environmental groups are launching a campaign to derail a Marin County Water District desalination project.

The plant would pipe water in from the bay near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

But opponents, led by the Food and Water Watch Group, say it would damage the eco-system and contribute to global warming.

Advocates however, say the plant could process 5 million gallons of water a day, providing most of Marin with a drought-proof water supply.
