8th suspect sought in student attack

VALLEJO, CA

Seven suspects have been arrested and charged by the Solano County District Attorney's Office for the Jan. 15 beating of Bryant Lee, a 17-year-old Jesse Bethel High School basketball player, according to school district spokesman Jason Hodge.

Police announced Friday that they issued a warrant for 21-year-old Vallejo resident Alanzo Brumfield. Brumfield is described only as being a black man who is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 250 pounds, according to police.

Police said the suspects emerged from two vans around 4 p.m. and one of them struck a 16-year-old girl in the face.

Lee and other basketball players who were outside the campus' student union area waiting for the start of their basketball practice intervened, Hodge said.

Lee was kicked, punched and choked, Hodge said. The beating was recorded by a school surveillance camera and has captured national attention.

A bank account has been established to accept donations to assist in Lee's recovery. Checks can be made out to Lee's mother Donna Lee, and mailed to Westamerica Bank, 2400 Hilborn Road, Fairfield, CA, 94534.
