Suspects arrested after break in

FAIRFIELD, CA

The occupant of the house in the 2800 block of Baytree Drive called police shortly before midnight Friday to report two unknown males were knocking on the door, according to police.

There were no lights on in the house, and resident stayed on the phone with the dispatcher and listened as the suspects moved to the backyard and tried to open the windows, police said.

Officers responded to the house as the victim told the dispatcher that the suspects could be heard inside the house, according to police.

Upon entering the house through the front door, the suspects ran out the back of the victim's house, police said.

The officers had set up a perimeter in the neighborhood and saw one of the suspects jumping over a nearby fence, according to police.

Both suspects were eventually found hiding between backyard fences, police said.

Nicholas Smollen, 19, and a juvenile were arrested for residential burglary, according to police.
