Bomb squad explodes package

REDWOOD CITY, CA

Police responded to a multi-unit apartment complex called the "Courtyard" at 1305 Marshall St. at about 4:40 p.m. to a report of a suspicious package, possibly containing explosives, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

Officers called for the evacuation of the surrounding area and contacted the San Mateo County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, a specialized unit of the sheriff's Office of Emergency Services, to assist with dismantling the device, according to police.

Bomb squad officers proceeded in detonating the device, police reported, causing some minor damage to the immediate area.

Police reported no injuries resulting from the bomb threat.

An investigation into the circumstances of the package and explosive contents is being conducted by the Redwood City Police Department.
