There was video released by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety that shows while some large pickups did well, others provided only marginal or poor protection in side impact crashes even though they are fairly heavy and had side air bags.
Here's how they ranked for side impact protection: the institute gave good marks to the Honda Ridgeline, Ford's F150 and Toyota Tundra.
But it gave poor marks to the Nissan Titan and General Motors' Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Regardless, both Nissan and General Motors said their trucks do meet or exceed federal standards and one test does not determine overall safety.
