Police later found evidence of counterfeiting and a loaded firearm when they searched Joshua David Cope's Gilbert Drive residence in Santa Rosa, Sgt. Lisa Banayat said.
A patrol officer stopped Cope's gray Ford Falcon on southbound Santa Rosa Avenue at Charles Street around 3:37 p.m. Monday because it had bald tires, Banayat said.
Cope presented a DMV printout as identification and the printout revealed Cope's license was suspended, Banayat said. The officer then found Cope had the three counterfeit bills, Banayat said.
Cope was arrested for forgery, possession of counterfeit currency and counterfeiting equipment and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was booked into the Sonoma County jail and later posted bail, Banayat said.
