The same storm is now bringing a lot of new snow to the Sierra.

If you're headed up to Tahoe for the holiday weekend, pack your patience. Traffic may be slow at times because conditions are too dangerous. Meanwhile, chains are required on US 50 and Highway 88.

Snow is also falling on bay area peaks.

Roads are closed near Mount Diablo, due to the ice and snow. There are people hiking and playing with the snow.

"We heard it was snowing, we saw it on Channel 7, and we came up here, we had a little snowball fight and we saw the snow come down. That's pretty cool huh," said Berkeley resident Jan Stafford.

"Right now it's about a two-mile walk to any significant snow, and make sure when it's coming to the end of the day, you allow time to get back, because it is quite a walk," said Mount Diablo supervising ranger Dan Stefanisko.

That last statement may also be because rangers don't want to go searching for people late in the dark. Some bicyclists are making it up the hill.

At the 3,000 foot level, it is hailing quite a bit and there are some beautiful vistas. So if you want to come, be prepared to hike.
