The fire was reported at about 5 p.m. at 235 Casa Grande Road, near Casa Grande High School. Smoke from the blaze, which was controlled within minutes, could be seen throughout the city.

"There was heavy black smoke showing from across town," Battalion Chief Mike Ahlin said.

The fire started in and consumed a large portable restroom, Ahlin said. It also damaged an exterior wall of a portable classroom and caused minor damage to cinderblock restroom.

"It's suspicious, probably malicious, but we couldn't determine much," Ahlin said, adding that a fire investigator will work to find out the official cause.

The portable restroom in which the fire started had no ignition source, Ahlin said.

He said that the damaged structures were vacant and had been part of an education center for mentally disabled adults.
