Signs were posted throughout Town Center Corte Madera, located off the Tamalpais exit of U.S. Highway 101, on Valentine's Day informing visitors about the policy change.

The decision came after an increase in requests from shoppers and tenants to regulate the degree of second-hand smoke, according to Stan Hoffman, general manager of the center.

A recent report by the American Lung Association ranked the town of Corte Madera, along with 11 other municipalities in Marin, with an "F" for failure to effectively reduce overall smoke exposure.
