Woman killed by falling tree in Sonoma

A 49-year-old woman died Sunday morning after she was struck by a falling tree in the Freestone area of unincorporated Sonoma County, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department.

The woman was walking on Freestone Flat Road when she was struck by the tree at about 11:30 a.m., according to the sheriff's department.

The woman was taking a short walk before church and when she did not return home, her boyfriend went looking for her and found that she had been struck by the tree, according to the sheriff's department.

Sheriff's deputies, along with medical personnel, responded to the scene, where the woman was declared dead.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin, according to the sheriff's department.
