Officers responded to southbound Interstate Highway 880 near Auto Mall Parkway at about 4:05 a.m. where a vehicle was believed to have left a highway offramp and overturned, coming to rest in standing water about 50 to 75 feet from the roadway, CHP officer Kevin Kroncke said.
An occupant of the vehicle is confirmed dead, Kroncke said, and investigators are still working to determine if the victim was killed during or after the crash, and if the vehicle may have had other occupants at the time.
A Sig-alert was briefly issued at 4:40 a.m. while the ramp was closed to traffic, and canceled at about 4:45 a.m., Kroncke said.
All roadways are open at 5:45 a.m., Kroncke said, though emergency crews and investigators remain at the scene.
