Jeffrey Price was found at a home in the 6900 block of Doreen Court, according to Alameda County Deputy Sheriff Keith Leeper.
Price's body was found after Dublin police officers made a routine traffic stop at about 2:15 p.m. Wednesday on Emerald Avenue, Lt. Glenn Moon said.
The driver of the vehicle, Douglas Campbell, 53, was arrested after police found the drug GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate, and methamphetamine in the vehicle, Moon said.
Campbell was arrested for possession of controlled substances for sale, as well as driving under the influence of a controlled substance, according to Moon.
Once he was arrested, Campbell told police of a dead man at the Doreen Court home. Campbell said he was with three friends using the drugs at a party at the home Tuesday night, and that one of the men had died.
Officers went to the home and found a man later identified as Price dead in the backyard next to a hot tub, police said.
Rick Shahan, 53, who lives at the home on Doreen Court, was also arrested on drug charges after police found the body. The fourth person at the party is not facing charges, Moon said.
"We hope they were being honest but we'd never know," Moon said Thursday.
There was no immediate indication of foul play, and police are awaiting toxicology reports to try to determine whether the man took the drugs intentionally or if he was given it without his knowledge.
"That's the difficult thing because a dead man never talks," Moon said. "But the results of the autopsy will give us an idea about what would be a normal amount of GHB in the system for recreational use and what would be an overdose."
Moon said the toxicology reports are not expected to be available for at least six weeks.
