Designer bargains for a good cause

The shop is called "A Miner Miracle" and all proceeds go to charity. This boutique in downtown San Francisco really does work miracles.

It's Friday afternoon at "A Miner Miracle," and a steady stream of shoppers can be seen mining the store for good bargains.

"You cannot find a better price for the brands that are in here. I came and just was in a daze of shopping heaven really," said Jennifer Storey.

"You know it's so nice to see this stuff here. The prices are reasonable and the quality is so high," said Sarah David.

In the words of another customer, you're getting Nordstrom quality at Mervyn's prices. There's no doubt that's one of the main attractions here. The store says it sells everything at 50 to 80 percent off every day.

We saw coats listed for $360 at a department store selling here for $59. Cashmere sweaters retail for about $150, but they sell at "A Miner Miracle" for $39.

Kathy Miner is the woman who makes this happen. She's the "Miner" in "A Miner Miracle."

"We have Ann Taylor, we have Michael Kors, Anne Klein, Via Spiga, London Fog, August Silk. We have really high quality clothes at rock bottom prices," said Miner.

Kathy depends on the generosity of her contacts in the fashion industry to maintain both the high quality and low prices.

One-hundred percent of money raised at "A Miner Miracle" supports Kathy's non-profit which goes by the same name.

The charity provides professional clothing and image counseling to low income men and women seeking employment.

"We give them makeovers. Everything is new, head to toe," said Miner.

Kathy's clients clearly win, but so do her customers.

"I came in here and was overwhelmed actually, and then actually didn't learn until later that it supported the charity. So it's kind of a win-win really," said Storey.

"A Miner Miracle" is located on Mission and 5th Streets in Downtown San Francisco and features career wear and accessories, including shoes, scarves and handbags.
