A 20-year-old San Jose man was reportedly driving east with three passengers on Tasman Drive at about 12:50 p.m. when he lost control of a 2001 Ford Explorer near Renaissance Drive and crashed, first into a road median and then into a street pole, San Jose police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.

Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders, Lopez said, and one more was hospitalized with injuries and is expected to live.

The driver allegedly fled the scene of the accident, but returned shortly after with his father, Lopez said, and was arrested on charges of drunken driving, vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run.

The driver was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Investigators were still at the scene at 4:15 a.m. and were expected to remain there for about an hour more, Lopez said.
