Lead a heart healthy life at any age

Carole's home gym and exercise routine:

  • 1 Mat (I use a cotton throw $15)
  • 2 Five pound hand weights ($20)
  • 1 Luggage strap ($8)
  • 1 Piece of wood dowling or broom handle ($3 at a lumber yard)
  • 1 Exercise ball ($25-35)
My routine consists of yoga poses, stretching (hamstrings and back), core strengthening and upper body strengthening, especially my arms. I based my routine on advice from a yoga instructor, a personal trainer and my physical therapist who treated me for back pain. The routine takes about 50 minutes and I conclude with 10 minutes of meditation (or daydreaming).

Teams: You can sign up and make new friends, or you can sign up an entire team from your workplace, church or family.

Information: You'll have access to inspirational and educational articles and videos with weight loss success stories, ways to lose weight and tips on how to feel great.

Experts: You can ask experts questions on nutrition, fitness and challenges.

Cooking: Each week, you'll find a calorie-cutting tip that will help you make over family favorites.

Coaching: Dubbed "an Apostle for Fitness" by the Wall Street Journal, Carole Carson will provide inspiration and information to help you reach your fitness goals. Our collective results will be reported on the Web site each week. The Challenge begins April 15, 2009.
