The victim was identified as San Jose resident Thomas Joseph Borbeck.
A sheriff's deputy parked near the intersection of Race and San Carlos streets was stopped by a person around 7 a.m. Friday. The person told the deputy he found a dead man behind a flower shop and showed the deputy a parking lot in the 200 block of Race Street.
Borbeck, who appeared to be a transient, was pronounced dead near the florist shop.
His cause of death has not been released, but the sheriff's office is investigating it as suspicious.
