American Sun Solar Corp. operated by Peter Davidson recently closed its doors after collecting thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims, the Contractors State License Board announced Monday.
Davidson's contracting license was revoked on Jan. 18, 2002. His company, Factory Direct: The Window Pros Inc. was doing business in the Campbell area under Peter K. Construction, according to the license board.
The phone number there has been disconnected.
Davidson has been operating American Sun Solar since last spring, board spokeswoman Pamela Mares said. Davidson allegedly took illegal down payments, diverted the money and abandoned the solar projects. He also failed to pay material suppliers, leaving thousands of dollars in unpaid bills resulting in liens against homeowners' properties, the license board said.
Mares would not disclose the number of Sonoma County residents who are victims of the alleged scam or the amount of money that was lost. The board is still investigating Davidson's business activities and will submit a report to the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office, Mares said.
The complaints against Davidson are among others that have come to light since the federal economic stimulus package bill was passed, Mares said. There have been other complaints against businesses professing to be "green" since then, Mares said.
Contractors working in the "green" trades still need to be licensed and qualified, the board said. Consumers can verify a contractor's license on the board's Web site at www.cslb.ca.gov.
Anyone with information about American Sun Solar Corporation of Davidson is urged to contact the board's Santa Rosa office at (707) 576-2196.
