The original neon sign from the very first Tower Records store came down Thursday afternoon. The 30-foot sign has been on the building since 1961.

Tower records shut down all its U.S. stores in 2006, a victim of debt and competition from the Internet.

The sign will be donated to the Sacramento History Museum.
