Police Lt Abel Tenorio said investigators know the identity of the 49-year-old man but are withholding his name because his family has not yet been notified of his death. The man was believed to be homeless, Tenorio said.
The female driver of the BMW was driving south on Sonoma Boulevard around 1:15 a.m. when she struck the pedestrian in the No. 1 lane, police said. She pulled over after the collision and called 911, Tenorio said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears the driver was not at fault, Tenorio said.
