One of the suspects allegedly befriended the victim while she was waiting at a bus stop near Orange and Grand avenues at around noon, according to the South San Francisco Police Department.
The woman was convinced to get into a yellow sedan with a dark top driven by the second suspect, and the two men reportedly drove her to do her errands before taking her home, according to police.
Police said the woman was then talked into buying a bar of gold for $5,000, which she paid for in cash.
When she took the bar to a jewelry store later that day, she was informed by an appraiser that the bar was not actually gold, police said.
Investigators are now seeking the men responsible for the scam.
The first suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s with brown hair and brown eyes, about 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 145 pounds. The victim could not describe the driver in any detail to police.
