Americans driving less, except in California

It could depend on where you are. The U.S. Department of Transportation says the number of miles Americans drive has been dropping steadily since December 2007. New figures show that trend is continuing.

Nationwide, Americans drove 7 billion fewer miles in January compared with the same month last year, a 3 percent drop. In California, driving inched up by 300,000 miles, a 1.5 percent increase.
