Armed robber busted after hitting bank

GILROY, CA

Officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at Chase Bank at 1177 First St. at about 6 p.m., according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, 49-year-old Peter Klein, carried a firearm during the robbery and had fled the bank in a sport utility vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police reported locating the vehicle and Klein a short distance away, and subsequently arrested him without incident. Evidence tying him to the robbery was found in his vehicle, according to police.

Klein, a resident of Aromas, was booked at San Jose Main Jail for robbery, according to police, who are continuing an investigation with the FBI to determine if Klein can be linked to other robberies in the area.
