The scam has claimed at least one victim in Leisure Town, an "active adult" community, by a suspect who targeted senior communities and called early in the morning, getting enough information over the phone to convince the victim they were related, according to the Vacaville Police Department.

The suspect then claimed to be in an emergency - stuck in jail, involved in an accident, or unable to leave a foreign country - and asked for help by sending money, according to police.

Police want anyone who gets a call from someone requesting urgent cash to report it to relatives or authorities to confirm its validity.

Anyone wishing to report such a call should contact the Vacaville Police Department at (707) 446-5200.
