The library is building a digital archive of stories, songs, photos and other artifacts about life in East Oakland.

About twenty families are taking part in the project.

They came to the Acorn-Woodland School on 81st Avenue Saturday morning to tell their stories.

The project was developed by an artist named Rene Yung as a way to counter negative stereotypes about East Oakland.

The archive will be housed at the East Oakland Community Library which opens later this year.
