About 60 residents were evacuated from their homes on Northwood Drive just before 2:00 a.m.
Several had to climb down ladders from their patios.
"The guy banged on my door and I had to run outside. And, I only had some shorts and a little tank top, and it was crazy. I just got out of my house as fast I could," said resident Justin Landon.
Most of the damage was to the exterior of the building but several cars in a carport were destroyed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
