This all comes at the same time that the San Francisco Giants are announcing today they're acquiring a 25 percent stake in the San Jose team. Discussions of such a deal began prior to the 2008 season, according to San Jose Giants chairman Dick Beahrs.
There is speculation that the deal is an escalation of a turf war with the Oakland A's, and that is expected to come up in a news conference today in San Jose. The Giants have long maintained that they have exclusive territorial rights in Santa Clara County.
