Rachel and Gideon Codding of Roseville wrote the words "bride" and "groom" on their marriage license next to the terms "Party A" and "Party B." The state did not recognize their union, claiming the couple altered a state document.

California has now agreed to accept the license, pay for the couples attorney's fees, and will include the terms "bride" and "groom" on the forms.

The words were replaced after the state supreme court temporarily legalized /*same-sex marriage*/ last May.
