The Richmond teen was standing outside in the 700 block of 19th Street with a group of friends around 9:40 p.m. when the suspects drove by in possibly a gray Dodge Charger and shot at them, Sgt. Bisa French said.

The suspects fled and no arrests were made, French said.

Ruffen told police before she died that she was 17 years old, French said, but the Contra Costa County coroner's office has records that indicate she was 16.

French did not know how many shots were fired or if the suspects might have known the group.

No other injuries were reported.
