The fire was reported at about 1:20 a.m. at a three-story apartment at 537 Hugo St., a San Francisco Fire Department dispatcher said.
The fire was controlled at about 1:40 a.m., and on first report from investigators, fire damage was mostly contained to a second floor, with minor smoke damage on A third floor and water damage on the first.
No injuries were reported as of 2:45 a.m., the dispatcher said, and fire investigators were still examining the scene.
