The San Jose Mercury News says the incident happened on March 12, 2009 at Schallenberger Elementary School.
The two fifth-graders were suspended and transferred to other schools.
The victim says his attacker told him he was paid to do it by another student and the attacker ran off after he lunged and missed.
Police are interviewing other students and trying to find witnesses as part of their on-going investigation.
