A bill that would protect used car buyers from fraud has passed the assembly transportation committee and is headed to appropriations.

Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada's bill would require the release of information about a car's history, including whether the car has ever been salvaged or suffered any flood damage.

Another bill would prevent the collection of advance fees for loan modification services today passed the senate judiciary committee.

The bill by Senator Ron Calderon was prompted by complaints of excessive fees charged to homeowners when the same service is available for free.
