Bay Bridge accident causes heavy traffic

An injury collision is blocking the two right lanes of westbound Interstate Highway 80 on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at about 4:40 a.m. just east of Treasure Island on the Bay Bridge, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

The collision involved at least two vehicles and possibly a third, according to Van Eckhardt, who said there were reports of injuries sustained in the crash, including someone possibly being trapped in a vehicle.

The crash is blocking the two right lanes of the westbound part of the bridge, Van Eckhardt said.

A Sig-alert was issued at about 5 a.m., according to Van Eckhardt, who did not know when the lanes would be reopened.
