More FasTrak lanes considered at bridges

The idea is to reduce the cost of collecting tolls, while at the same time promoting the use of the transponders that pay tolls electronically.

Traffic on the Bay Area's toll bridges is down and FasTrak usage is up 64 percent for rush hour drivers. The plan would reduce the number of cash lanes at toll bridges and open new FasTrak only lanes during commute hours.

The Carquinez, Richmond-San Rafael, San Mateo and Bay Bridges would all be affected.

This is just a proposal and would be on the table at Wednesday's Toll Authority meeting in Oakland.
