Call volume has been extremely high during this recession and frustrations from people trying to get through the phone line, has been equally high.

On Wednesday Assembly Speaker Karen Bass diverted more than $6 million from the assembly operating budget to the EDD. That money will be used to get more people answering phones.

"We know that the employment office has been inundated with people trying to access services, which is the exact reason why we're providing the funding so that the call service can be expanded," said Speaker Bass.

But critics say the money would be better spent creating jobs in the state. However, those critics didn't notice the people answering the phones will have jobs.
