Sgt. Ken Savano said a woman was in the Safeway parking lot at 373 South McDowell Blvd around 8 p.m. when she heard another woman, later identified as Petaluma resident Bonnie Chesler, calling for help.

The woman went to Chesler's 2002 Honda Accord and learned Chesler was shouting because she had dropped her car keys under the seat, Savano said.

The woman smelled alcohol and realized Chesler was intoxicated, Savano said. She became concerned and asked Chesler if she had driven to the store, Savano said.

Chesler became confrontational and the woman backed off, obtained the Honda's license number and called 911, Savano said.

Police dispatchers looked up Chesler's address on Canterbury Court and passed the information along to Officer Walt Spiller, who arrived at the home about 15 minutes later, Savano said.

Spiller contacted Chesler inside the home and determined she was intoxicated, Savano said.

Chesler was arrested for DUI and for violating her probation by consuming alcohol after her third DUI conviction, Savano said.
