Lanterns from "ThermaCELL" and "Off" do the trick. Both contain allethrin an active ingredient which repels mosquitoes.

The lantern from "ThermaCELL" is activated using a butane cartidge. "Off" works using a flame.

"They both contain the same amount of active, it's just a different way to activate it," said Charmaine Gillespie, Good Housekeeping Institute.

Certain Scents can also be used to ward off bugs.

"These geranial candles are usually five times more effective than say a citronella candle. We recommend the geranial candles and diffusers for people who prefer something more natural as opposed to a synthetic formulation," said Charmaine Gillespie, Good Housekeeping Institute.

The latest is the metofluthrin diffuser. You can wear it or rest it on the table.

One other tid-bit, products with an EPA registration number have been reviewed by the federal government for effectiveness and safety.
