California vehicle license fees increase

The fee is increasing from .65 percent to one point, 15 percent of the vehicle's value. It applies to both renewed registration and when purchasing a new car.

So, for instance, if you buy a car for $20,000, the vehicle license fee will be $231. It used to be $131.

The increase is part of the state's budget deal, signed into law in February.
