The San Diego County sixth grader was told her classmates had to have permission slips first. The principal cited a district policy requiring parental notification before students are exposed to lessons about sex.

The ACLU says the girl's report was a biographical account of the assassinated San Francisco supervisor's life and had nothing to do with sex.

The organization says it will sue unless the girl gets an apology and is allowed to give her report.
