Lawmakers want safe surrender law changes

Under existing law, a mother has 72-hours to legally turn over an infant to a hospital or fire station. The new law would extend the safe surrender allowance to 30-days. The governor has vetoed the same legislation three times.

Just this week, the body of a newborn was found dead in a dumpster outside an apartment complex in Union City.
