Police responded to several calls reporting that a Toyota Camry had crashed into a power pole near Bodega Avenue and Prospect Street at around 2:15 p.m., according to the Petaluma Police Department. Live electrical wires caused police to close Bodega Avenue while crews from Pacific Gas & Electric Co. worked to secure the area.

Petaluma resident Lilia Bizal, 83, had apparently fallen asleep at the wheel and crashed into trashcans on Bodega Avenue, activating the vehicle's airbags. Bizal woke up and stepped on the gas pedal, striking a parked vehicle and then a power pole.

Bizal was taken to a hospital though police did not report any injuries.

Power was interrupted to PG&E customers in the area of downtown Petaluma for about three hours.
