Detectives in May responded to a report from the Santa Clara Street Department that containers filled with transmission fluid or motor oil were being dumped on city streets, according to the Police Department.
Coyer James King, 55, had recently been released on probation after serving 10 months in jail for 11 counts of felony vandalism, according to police.
King, nicknamed the "paint bomber," was blamed for more than 300 incidents of vandalism in which containers filled with paint were dropped on city roadways from mid 2006 to his arrest on July 17, 2008.
Detectives watching King on Tuesday reported that they saw him drop a container of oil as he drove on Homestead Road east of Scott Boulevard at around 7:45 a.m. King was arrested on six felony counts of intentionally dumping hazardous materials.
King is described as a white man with brown hair and green eyes, 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. At the time of his most recent arrest he was driving a blue Ford Ranger pickup with California license plate 6B43472.
