AAA Travel says travel from Northern California to Hawaii and Mexico is up this summer.

Guess who's going? The travelers who would normally go to Europe, Asia or Alaska.

"Right now we know of a deal where you can go to Kauai for three nights with air, round trip from San Francisco, staying at the Kauai Sheraton for only $549 per person. Last year, you could fly to Hawaii for a $1,000," says Michael Ackermann, CSAA Travel.

AAA says the trend is definitely to stay closer to home.
