With budgets tight this vacation season, more families will be hitting the highway for their vacations. A portable DVD player can keep the kids happy during that long drive.

Good Housekeeping tested some for picture quality and durability. Consumers looked at them for ease of use, appearance and quality, too. The prize went to the LG DP885.

"We rode with all 14 players on the /*New York City*/ subway system to ensure that the devices wouldn't skip when we were riding, and the LG performed perfectly," said Rachel Rothman with the Good Housekeeping Research Institute.

"Well, I like the easy to use controls on the DVD player, like the power button that's on the main part of it right here," said tester Paul Hope.

If you would like to save a little money, the $100 Polaroid DPA07046 may be a good choice. Testers gave good marks to the swivel screen, remote control, anti-skip and Dolby Digital sound.

As an added bonus, the Polaroid also comes with a carrying bag at no extra cost.
