The crash happened just before 9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate Highway 80 on the bridge, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.

Preliminary reports indicate the motorcyclist barely hit the white Honda CR-V but that the impact threw the rider from the bike toward the tanker truck, Van Eckhardt said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, Van Eckhardt said.

Two eastbound lanes were blocked while the crash was cleared from the roadway. A Sig-alert was issued at 9:03 a.m. and then canceled at 10:41 a.m.
