Small inexpensive camcorders are kid-friendly and simple to upload. The Good Housekeeping Research Institute tested them for video and sound quality and features. Consumers were given the chance to try them out too.

The Flip Mino set the standard for video quality for standard definition.

"I love this one because it has a really easy record button, very easy to find," said tester Samantha Seneviratne.

For those who prefer hi-def, try the Creative Vado HD camera which scored points for both indoor and outdoor video quality. The outdoor footage from the Kodak Z-I-6 was rated as excellent. But the camcorder didn't do as well in low light.

Before buying a mini-camcorder, double check to make sure it's compatible with your computer.
